The Institute of International Education is proud and delighted to congratulate the two former Fulbright Fellows who received Nobel Prizes in Physics for 2002:
Masatoshi Koshiba
Fulbright from Japan 1953-55
Riccardo Giacconi
Fulbright from Italy 1956-58
With the help of our Trustees, the Institute was able to place a full-page ad in the New York Times on December 10, 2002, highlighting IIE’s unique history with the Nobel Prize recipients and the importance of international educational exchange. So far 48 former IIE grantees or Trustees have received Nobel prizes -- including prizes in the sciences, economics, literature, as well as seven Peace Prizes. They have won in every decade of the last century and, since the 1950s, at least five per decade have received Nobel Prizes.
