IIE Launches New Center for Leadership Excellence in Cairo

Training future leaders in arenas both public and private has been
part of the mission of the Institute of International Education (IIE)
since it began operations in 1919. With a proven track record of leadership
development in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa)
region and around the world, IIE is proud to announce the launch of
our new center for leadership excellence in Cairo.

ocated in Cairo, IIE's new center for
leadership excellence partners with
individuals and institutions to build leadership
capacity in both the public and private
sectors. Throughout the MENA region, current
and future leaders need opportunities for dialogue
and networking. The Center designs and
implements programs to provide individuals
with outstanding, innovative leadership training,
including case studies based on real situations
experienced in the region. The goal is to
provide professionals with the skills and qualities
most needed today—and most likely to promote
societal development for tomorrow.
􀂄 A Proven Track Record
IIE has a proven track record in Egypt building
partnerships for leadership development and
working with champions for change. For over
five years, IIE has pioneered leadership development
within the Ministry of Energy and Electricity
and Telecom Egypt, under the USAID
Leadership Development Program (LDP). In addition,
over 65,000 Egyptians participated in IIEadministered
programs under the USAID Development
Training II (DT2) Project, including
over 6,000 professionals who trained in the U.S.
and other countries. The success of these programs
positions the center for leadership
excellence to work closely with reform-focused
local institutions, as well as emerging
leaders in a diversity of sectors and professions.

􀂄 Recent Initiatives and New Programs
IIE successfully initiated an innovative approach
for leadership exchange with the First Egyptian
Leadership Forum held in June 2003 in partnership
with USAID, the Egyptian Future Generation
Foundation and the Stuart Family Foundation.
The Forum enabled 45 competitively-selected
private and public sector senior business
managers to share experiences and network.
The center for leadership excellence is
currently working with private sector donors and
public officials throughout the MENA region to
develop innovative new leadership development
programs, including several programs
that specifically benefit women and young professionals.
􀂄 Global Networks and Regional Expertise
The center for leadership excellence in
Cairo is part of IIE, the most experienced international
exchange not-for-profit in the United
States. Today, IIE is the world leader in the exchange
of people and ideas. The 250 programs
IIE currently implements in over 175 countries
worldwide—including the U.S. Department of
State’s Fulbright Program—are having a meaningful
impact on the problems facing our world.
The Center will leverage the Institute's program
management expertise, global higher education
contacts and extensive international networks
to advance leadership learning and research
both within Egypt and throughout the region.
