April 30, 2009—His Excellency Dr. Hanif Hassan, UAE Minister of Education received Dr. Allan Goodman, President and CEO of the Institute of International Education (IIE), in office in Abu Dhabi yesterday morning to discuss areas of cooperation between the Ministry and the Institute and its projected projects that aim for raising the efficiency of the ministry’s employees as well as the strategies and policies adopted by the Ministry. The meeting was attended by Mr. Rashid Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Ministry of Education and members of the institute’s delegation.
Dr. Allan Goodman, CEO of the Institute of International Education “IIE” expressed his admiration of the UAE’s efforts in education reform and viewed the efforts of the institute since its established in 1919. He said: “The Institute is the world’s largest and most experienced international education and training organizations and currently administers over 250 programs benefiting nearly 20.000 men and women from over 175 countries including the renowned Fulbright Program on behalf of the US Department of State. The IIE is also a leader in providing educational services in the MENA region with the goal of preparing individuals and institutions to become leaders in the globalized world. Building on its extensive networks, experiences, and programs around the globe, IIE has developed a strong set of services for the MENA region, and has worked with institutions in countries such as: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE. IIE is a leader in customizing innovative programs and has also developed strong partnerships with the energy sector in the region”.
The visiting delegation also gave His Excellency Dr. Hanif Hassan a presentation about the cooperation projects such as the fellowship programs for the US Department of State through the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Program and the Fulbright Foreign language Teaching Assistant Program that engages mid-career professionals from the MENA region to engage in one year of graduate –level study in the US; in addition to the Education Without Borders Forum that is organized in collaboration with the UAE’s Higher Colleges of Technology that hosts regional educational, industry and government leaders from around the world to discuss strategic issues and trends in higher education, in addition to their administration of the King Abdulla University of Science and Technology Scholarships in Saudi Arabia.
In the end of the meeting, Dr. Goodman reviewed the goals and objectives of the Libya Energy Scholarships that provides training opportunities for Libyans nationals to obtain advanced training in geology, petroleum engineering, oil production and business management at US and UK institutions.
