With financial help from the IIE Emergency Assistance for Students Fund following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, Pierre Richard Bercy graduated from Western Connecticut State University:
"I am truly honored to be a recipient of an Emergency Assistance Program grant from the Institute of International Education. I would like to thank the entire committee for their heartfelt donation and contribution towards my education. It is my solemn pledge to make the most of this outstanding opportunity, and make my dreams of obtaining a higher education come to fruition. With the help of the grant I graduated in May 2012 with my bachelor’s degree in Finance from Western Connecticut State University.
After my graduation, I moved to New York with the hopes of starting a career in finance. I am currently an Associate at the James Jay Dudley Luce Foundation a New York based NGO. We provide grants to other NGOs and conduct media awareness. We write stories for other NGOs and post them on either the Huffington Post or Daily Kos or Stewardship Report, a news outlet my organization recently launched. We are in the process of building a University Center in Leogane, Haiti. At this center, students will have the opportunity to learn how to speak and write English and as well as post their own stories on the Stewardship Report website. Again thank you for all your support."
