Renewable Energy Technology Options is designed to
assist decision-makers in expanding their array of energy
options to encompass viable renewable energy sources. Workshop
focuses on technology options. It covers economic, financial,
institutional, social, and environmental decisions. Program
also includes technical assistance to help apply the skills
learned and support interested organizations in the identification
and development of renewable energy projects, as well as
to increase participants' understanding of the training
needs which will accompany project development.
Renewable Energy Project Financing is for small
renewable energy developers who need training on how to
finance grid supply projects. Course covers factors determining
the financing structure (i.e. project scale, project complexity,
project risk), financing mechanisms (i.e. build-own-operate,
build-own-transfer, third party financing, debt equity swap,
joint venture, leasing, cooperative or commercial credit),
sources of financing and their differences (i.e. commercial
banks, institutional investors, venture capital, private
investors, multilateral development banks, regional and
national development banks, credit guarantee programs, risk
insurance programs), the requirements of project financing
(i.e. private power legislation, responsive utility and
regulatory environment, utility power purchase agreement
formulation, pricing for utility power purchases, responsive
project development regulatory environment), how to successfully
evaluate various structures, how to implement small renewable
energy projects, and case studies.
Renewable Energy Project Appraisal for Financial Institutions
is for personnel from financial institutions. It is designed
to familiarize participants with renewable energy technologies
and enable them to better assess the credit risk associated
with renewable energy based projects.
