Energy Efficiency/ Energy Conservation

Utility and Industry Energy Conservation is for utility and industrial plant engineers and supervisors involved in the heat rate performance and/or efficiency of plant operations. Course covers the implementation of in-house energy conservation programs and the methodologies used to improve overall plant efficiency. Plant energy audits, load shifting and project planning are discussed.

Energy Efficiency in Process Industry focuses primarily on the use of Pinch Analysis for bringing about reductions in energy use (of the order of 25% to over 50%) in process industry. This technique is applicable across a wide range of industries such as petroleum refining, petrochemicals, pharmaceutical and fine chemical manufacturing, food processing, pulp and paper, and any other material transformation industry, without requiring modification of the basic industrial process. Efficiency gains take place in the auxiliary utilities: heating, cooling, steam cycles, refrigeration, electric power use and/or generation. Financial benefits come in the form of reduced operating costs for energy and other utilities and capital investments for heat exchangers. Environmental benefits include reduced water use and discharges, and decreased air emissions. Workshop covers energy efficiency principles, models for heat and power analysis, applications to process equipment, efficient design and configuration of heat exchangers, evaporators, distillation columns, dryers, and related equipment, cogeneration, energy monitoring and planning. One-day Upper Management workshop is followed by a 2-week technical workshop for technically qualified persons responsible for plant improvements such as engineering, plant and operations managers, and those responsible for Total Quality Management.

Energy Efficiency in Process Industries is management-level training designed to provide participants from the public and private sector with a comprehensive overview of the best available approaches for promoting energy efficiency in process industries.
