AWARDS
In Western Europe, the Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Program will select fourteen Global Leaders from the participating universities. Global Leaders will be invited to an award ceremony in London in May 2009, at which their achievements will be publicly recognized. In conjunction with the award ceremony, a selection panel will interview the Global Leaders from Western Europe and select seven to receive an all-expense-paid trip to represent the group at the Global Leadership Institute in New York City in July 2009.

The Goldman Sachs Global Leaders selected to attend the Global Leadership Institute in July will participate in leadership training and seminars on timely international issues. They will consult with renowned leaders in the public, civic, and private sectors and build ties based on shared experiences and common goals. Activities for participants will include various cultural events in New York City. Global Leaders attending the Leadership Institute will be responsible for communicating the essence of the experience to the rest of the group.

To be considered for nomination, applicants must submit the following materials to university representatives as part of their nomination package by December 15, 2008:

  • A completed nomination form.
  • A personal statement to let reviewers know about you as a student and as a person and to advocate for why they should nominate you for this award. COMPLETING AND SUBMITTING YOUR NOMINATION PACKAGE
Nomination materials should be submitted to your designated university representatives by December 15, 2008:

Please check the list above to make sure you submit a complete package. Keep a complete copy for your records. Should you be nominated, you will be required to submit these materials again as part of your application.

Following review by a selection committee, between 5 and 10 students per university will be nominated and invited to complete the final stage of their application process. These students will be notified of their nominee status by early February 2009. Only nominees will have access to the application.

COMPLETING AND SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION
Students who are nominated to represent their universities in the competition must submit a complete application to IIE/Europe. Materials must be received by IIE/Europe by February 27, 2009.

IIE will consider all applications received by the deadline or postmarked by (including) February 20, 2009. Applications received after the deadline will be considered on a case-by-case basis. We recommend that applications be sent via express or registered post to avoid delay or loss of materials.

Applicants are advised to keep a complete set of application materials in case of delivery problems. Application materials will not be returned to applicants.

All applicants must provide the following documents by the deadlines stated above. Applications MUST be submitted in 6 copies (except letters of recommendation). Each set MUST be compiled in the following order:

  • A printed electronic application. The application must be completed and submitted online; a printed copy must also be sent to IIE/Europe with supporting documents.
  • Curriculum Vitae (with bullet points emphasizing key accomplishments, not a narrative), maximum 2 pages.
  • A photocopy of your first-year university transcripts (your official university record which shows courses taken and grades achieved), plus (unofficial) English translation if applicable.
  • A photocopy of your secondary school leaving exam results, plus (unofficial) English translation if applicable.
  • Two letters of recommendation. Recommenders must use the required recommendation forms that are distributed to the nominee, and must provide recommendation letters to nominees in signed, sealed envelopes. (Sending recommendations directly to IIE/Europe is acceptable only in exceptional cases, after prior consultation with IIE/Europe.) One recommendation should address the nominee's leadership abilities and personal character; the second letter should address the nominee's intellect and prospects for continued academic success. At least one letter must come from a university faculty member. The other letter may come from another university faculty member or an adult, non-family member who has supervised the nominee's education, work, or other activities. If the nominee's first language is not English, the letters should offer an assessment of his/her English language capabilities. In general, letters of recommendation should be submitted in the English language. If this will be a problem for your recommender, please consult with IIE to determine the proper course of action.

No additional materials (copies of awards, certificates of accomplishment, etc.) will be distributed to selection committee members, so please describe relevant awards and accomplishments in the application form itself.
