Q. I am a graduating senior/graduate student. May I apply for the FINIP Program?

A. No. You must be a sophomore or junior to be eligible to apply. Please see our Eligibility section for eligibility criteria.

Q. I am a U.S. permanent resident. May I apply for the FINIP Program?

A. No. Only U.S. citizens or Indonesian citizens are eligible to apply. Please see our Eligibility section for eligibility criteria.

Q. What does good academic standing mean?

A. The term “good academic standing” is defined differently by each university or college. Your Study Abroad Adviser will need to certify on the Adviser Nomination Form that you are in good academic standing as determined by your university or college.

Q. Is the FINIP Program limited to students of specific majors?

A. No, students pursuing any major may apply.

Q. Am I limited to pursuing an internship in specific fields?

A. No. IIE has listed several potential fields of interest, but applicants may also specify other fields of interest in their application, keeping in mind that the internship will take place at an NGO.

Q. I am a U.S. applicant. Do I need to have Indonesian language background in order to participate in this program?

A. No, an Indonesian language background is not required. U.S. students will complete a course in Indonesian language and culture in Indonesia as part of the internship experience.

Q. Who may nominate my application if there is no Study Abroad Adviser on my campus?

A. An Internship Adviser or Academic Adviser/Counselor who is willing to verify and support your application may nominate your application. If you are unable to identify an appropriate adviser on your campus, please e-mail finip@iie.org.

Q. By what date must I submit the FINIP application?

A. The application deadline for Summer 2011 is March 1, 2011. Campuses may set an earlier deadline.

Q. What should I do to ensure that my application is properly submitted for consideration?

A. You must make sure that IIE receives the following by the application deadline.

  • The completed and submitted on-line FINIP student application. The applicant should save the electronic e-mail confirmation that is sent to the applicant at the time of his/her on-line FINIP application submission.
  • The on-line nomination of your FINIP application by your Study Abroad Adviser. The applicant should save the electronic e-mail confirmation that is sent to the applicant at the time when his/her Study Abroad Adviser submits the electronic nomination form.

Q. When should I expect to hear from the Institute of International Education (IIE) after I have submitted my FINIP application?

A. All eligible applicants will be notified of the selection results by e-mail within 4-6 weeks of the application deadline.

Q. What should I expect if I am selected to participate in the FINIP Program?

A. Selected participants must complete additional paperwork to finalize their internship placement. Instructions and forms will be attached to the selection notification e-mail.
