PDPI Program

Administered by IIE, the PDPI program is part of the Brazilian government’s strategic plan to improve English language teaching and teacher training in all states in Brazil. The purpose of this 6 week program is to bring high school English teachers to US universities for in-service English language study and practice in English teaching methodology, as well as exposure to US society and culture. This program is part of the Brazilian government's larger initiative to grant 100,000 scholarships for the best students from Brazil to study abroad at the world’s best universities.

What is the PDPI Program?

The PDPI program is part of the Brazilian government’s strategic plan to improve English language teaching and teacher training in all states in Brazil. The purpose of this 6 week program is to bring high school English teachers to US universities for in-service English language study and practice in English teaching methodology, as well as exposure to US society and culture. Two cohorts of 479 grantees are selected each year, one arrives in January, the other in June.

Who should apply?

High school English teachers from all states in Brazil who have a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience are eligible.

Who sponsors this program?

CAPES is the department within the Brazilian Ministry of Education devoted to the evaluation and expansion of higher education in Brazil. Consed is a private, non-profit organization which aims to promote integration of Departments of Education from all states in Brazil and to develop quality education.The Fulbright Commission in Brazil coordinates the application process and PDPI program logistics in Brazil.The US Embassy in Brazil is proud to provide programmatic support to PDPI grantees.
