2011 Heiskell Award Honorable Mention: Internationalizing the Campus

Nomination submitted by: Bryan Andriano, Senior Associate Director of International Education and Programs, & Alison Grimsland, Coordinator for International Education and Programs.

Program Overview
The International Residency Program at The George Washington University School of Business requires that 100 percent of full-time MBA students develop global management skills through participation in a mentored, credit-based, and real-world consulting project abroad. Students participate in a sequence of four courses that prepare them for a two-week in-country residency where they work directly with clients to propose solutions, some of which have subsequently been adopted by the clients.

The reach of the program is remarkable: it has engaged international non-profit organizations; large and small enterprises, chambers of commerce; and educational institutions. In 2010, projects took place in India, South Korea, Mexico, Serbia and Sweden. To date, over 300 students have completed projects in 10 countries across 5 continents.

The program is additionally recognized for its successful engagement of the school’s international alumni community in campus internationalization. "Through academic, social, and personal programs, the GW School of Business reaches well beyond its students," says Provost Steven Lerman.
