Support an IIE Generation Study Abroad Travel Grant Today
We bought John a plane ticket, and his whole life took flight
During his semester abroad in Singapore, John Nganga traveled to nine countries in Southeast Asia. He ate scorpion. He experienced a variety of cultures distinct from what he’d known growing up in St. Louis. He spurred a lifelong passion to fight human trafficking. Most importantly, he discovered who he is, who he wants to be, and what it means to be a global citizen. When John graduates with an engineering degree, he won’t just bring strong quantitative skills to the workplace, but a cross-cultural competence that employers increasingly are demanding and employees need to succeed.
John’s whole life changed by traveling overseas. But without an IIE Generation Study Abroad (GSA) scholarship, he wouldn’t even have boarded the airplane. For too many students, the added expense of travel pushes the transformative experience of studying abroad out of reach. That means kids who are already financially disadvantaged miss out on developing the global skills and exposure that will help them thrive in today’s interconnected world.
They need your help, and so do we. With your assistance, IIE can support more students like John to discover the world beyond their borders, and return home better prepared to be the globally-minded leaders we need them to be.
