Today, only 1% of the world’s more than 65 million refugees attend university, compared to the global average of 34%. However, the need for higher education is especially acute in places of conflict, where it is crucial in rebuilding societies and maintaining stability.
PEER is a global resource that connects refugee and displaced students to scholarships, language and online learning, and other educational resources. Due to the devastating impact of the Syrian conflict, PEER focused on the needs of Syrian university-aged students in year one. In its second year, PEER will expand to include information on education opportunities for students from other countries impacted by crises.
With your help, IIE PEER can reach and help more displaced and refugee students, provide young people with the skills needed to rebuild their countries, and change the perception of refugees worldwide.
