We thank Dr. Malou Harrison, President of Miami Dade College’s InterAmerican Campus for welcoming the first Generation Study Abroad Symposium, as well as our special guest Mr. Michael Finney of The Miami-Dade Beacon Council and our engaged participants for their participation. Take a look at the great time we had discussing Study Abroad Matters: Linking Higher Education to the Contemporary Workplace through International Experience and networking among international and higher education colleagues and professionals.

During this half-day event we convened our Commitment Partners and industry professionals in the region to engage in solution-driven and action-oriented dialogue to push the envelope on how we think and "do" study abroad as we work together to achieve our ambitious goal of doubling by the end of the decade and address the significant value and growing interest and intersection of study abroad, global talent and workforce development.

Roundtable Session - Study Abroad Matters: Linking Higher Education to the Contemporary Workplace through International Experience
Given current challenges higher education faces associated with rising cost, recruitment and retention, and now ensuring graduate’s employability, this roundtable brought together international education and industry professionals to expand the conversation of the value of study abroad to employability for U.S. students and graduates. With the newly published white paper, Study Abroad Matters: Linking Higher Education to the Contemporary Workplace through International Experience, a part of the Global Education Research Reports supported by the AIFS Foundation and IIE, and follow up to the IIE Center for Academic Mobility Research and Impact October 2017 release of Gaining an Employment Edge: The Impact of Study Abroad on 21st Century Skills & Career Prospects in the United States, the conversation was centered around the content, trends and recommendations identified in these reports and strategies that higher education professionals and industry professionals can strengthen the linkage.
