IIE is trying to do something big – double the number of U.S. students who study abroad by the end of the decade. This involves a complete shift in the way Americans think about study abroad as a part of a 21st century education.
To make this work, we need your help! IIE hopes to rally students around our Generation Study Abroad initiative and is seeking all students and alumni to join the initiative and help get the word out about study abroad. So what can you do?
Share your experiences to help us show why study abroad is so crucial by entering the Generation Study Abroad Voices Video Challenge.
Together with The New York Times in Education, IIE is asking study abroad alumni to join Generation Study Abroad and share their voice. We want to know how study abroad gave you an edge, and what impact it had on your life and the world, and how using The New York Times content helped you. The New York Times provides a vibrant daily record of history in the making, igniting student interest by linking learning to living – serving the ideals of today’s demanding educational aims by spurring critical thinking, increasing national and global awareness and fostering a more informed and engaged citizenry.
Digital storytelling is a modern take on the tradition of oral storytelling and often combines video, art, voice to tell a particular point of view or experience. IIE and The New York Times in Education are interested in stories that tell the audience about the impact that study abroad had on you and your professional prospects or career.
A successful digital story will highlight a specific skill/quality such as language acquisition, confidence and independence, tolerance, problem solving, global awareness, cross-cultural communication, and so on. Additionally, submissions should inspire and motivate others to study abroad and recognize the competencies developed from such global experiences that have prepared you for your career.
Two winning stories will be selected and featured on the New York Times in Education and IIE’s Generation Study Abroad websites and social media channels.
Additionally, the winners will receive:
- I-Pad (generously sponsored by The New York Times in Education)
- A trip to Washington, D.C. to attend the IIE Summit on Generation Study Abroad on October 1-3, 2017 as a “Generation Study Abroad Voices” Ambassador
Five (5) Runner-up videos will be selected and will:
- Be featured on IIE’s Generation Study Abroad website and social media channels
- Receive a certificate of appreciation from IIE and New York Times in Education
- Past Generation Study Abroad Voices Videos
- Unpacking Your Study Abroad Experience
