Between 2013 and 2019, IIE and Legacy Alcoa Foundation (subsequently Alcoa Foundation and Arconic Foundation) partnered with nonprofit organizations in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Russia, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. Every nonprofit organization had existing job readiness and employment programs offering both job training and internships with small and medium-sized manufacturing companies in the local community.  

 

Academos E-Mentoring

Academos E-Mentoring

Academos E-Mentoring is the premier e-mentoring organization in Canada. It assists youth from Quebec province to persevere in their academic endeavors and develop their career goals by matching them with professionals in various fields through its e-mentoring platform. The youth unemployment rate in Quebec is 13.7%. IIE and Legacy Alcoa Foundation partnered with Academos E-Mentoring to provide a customized workforce development program to 50 unemployed youth in Quebec province.

Bellingham Technical College

Bellingham Technical College

Bellingham Technical College (BTC) is located in Whatcom County, a suburban/rural area in the northwest corner of Washington State. The county has an unemployment rate for youth and young adults of well over 10%. The college serves at least 750 students annually between the ages of 18 and 24, many of whom are first-time college students. Many of these students are from rural areas, recently graduated, dropped out of high school, or are entering BTC a few years after high school graduation. BTC’s manufacturing programs train youth with disabilities as well as those who are academically and economically disadvantaged. Nearly 80% of BTC’s full-time, program students qualify for federal or state financial aid. Between 2013 and 2017, IIE and Alcoa Foundation partnered with BTC to provide a customized workforce development and internship program for nearly 100 BTC students in its manufacturing programs.

Catalyst Connection

Catalyst Connection

Catalyst Connection is an economic development organization based in Pittsburgh. It is dedicated to helping small manufacturers in southwestern Pennsylvania improve their competitive performance. Catalyst Connection serves counties with youth unemployment rates ranging between 18-25%. IIE and Legacy Alcoa Foundation partnered with Catalyst Connection to provide a customized workforce development program for 60 unemployed young men and women from southwestern Pennsylvania.

Eastern Iowa Community Colleges / IowaWORKS

Eastern Iowa Community Colleges is a community college serving Clinton, Jackson, Muscatine, and Scott Counties in Iowa and the contracted provider of Title I services through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act for Region 9. The WIOA program is one of many service providers in the IowaWORKS One Stop office who work collaboratively to help individuals become self-sufficient and reach employment goals with a focus on skilled employment. Between January 2018 and December 2019, IIE and Arconic Foundation partnered with Eastern Iowa Community Colleges to provide workforce training, paid internships, and career counseling to 29 young people.

Fundación Empresa Universidad Gallega (FEUGA)

Fundación Empresa Universidad Gallega (FEUGA) is a Spanish foundation, based in Santiago de Compostela, that was established to help develop the society and economy of the Galicia region of Spain. In particular, FEUGA acts as an intermediary between Galician universities and Galician companies and helps recent graduates enter the Galician workforce. FEUGA has proven experience in the field of workforce development and has arranged over 17,000 internships since 1983. The youth unemployment rate in Galicia is 54.4%. IIE and Legacy Alcoa Foundation partnered with FEUGA to provide a customized workforce development program for 50 unemployed youth from the Galicia region.

Fund for Sustainable Development

The Fund for Sustainable Development (FSD) has multiple locations across Russia. Its mission is to promote regional and community sustainable development through concrete projects addressing environmental, social and economic issues in communities across the Russian Federation. IIE and Legacy Alcoa Foundation partnered with FSD to provide customized workforce development training to 15 unemployed youth from the Belaya Kalitva region of Russia.

Northern Futures - Geelong

Northern Futures is a non-governmental organization located in the city of Geelong, Australia. The organization is a collaborative partnership between members of the community including government, business, schools, and community groups who are working together to identify opportunities for improved economy, jobs, and education and training for the northern suburbs of Geelong. The unemployment rate in the northern suburbs of Geelong is 9.9%, which is almost double the 5.8% general unemployment rate in Australia. IIE and Alcoa Foundation partnered with Northern Futures to provide a customized workforce development program to more than 40 unemployed young men and women from the northern suburbs of Geelong.

Regional Charity Foundation Samara Province

The goal and mission of the Regional Charity Foundation Samara Province is to support local citizens and organizations to overcome social, cultural and educational challenges. They achieves this mission by offering different social, cultural and workforce development programs. IIE and Legacy Alcoa Foundation partnered with Regional Charity Foundation Samara Province to provide a customized workforce development program for 35 unemployed youth from the Samara region. The internship program structure involved close coordination with local partners and industry representatives.

Youth Opportunities Unlimited (Y.O.U.) is a nonprofit workforce development organization based in Cleveland, Ohio that serves teens and young adults ages 14-24 living in economically distressed areas in Cuyahoga, Lorain, and Lake Counties. Y.O.U.’s programs and services are focused on ensuring these individuals are ready to pursue a path to economic self-sufficiency through mentoring, employability skills training, industry-based credential training, career exploration, jobs, and internships. Beginning in January 2018, IIE and Arconic Foundation will partner with Y.O.U. to provide workforce training, paid internships, and career counseling to 50 young people
