IIE’s Head of Research, Policy and Practice Rajika Bhandari spoke on a panel at the Time Higher Education World Academic Summit at Kings College London in the United Kingdom. The panel was on “How partnerships can sustain and support HE systems in fragile/post-conflict states.” Higher education provision is rarely considered as a post-emergency response for rebuilding nations and communities, but countries without an effective tertiary education system cannot progress. The panelists discussed whether or not research-intensive universities can successfully and sustainably support academics and institutions in the rebuilding of their nations.

Dr. Bhandari’s fellow panelists included Dlawer Ala’Aldeen, President, Middle East Research Institute in the Kurdish Region of Iraq; Funmi Olonisakin, Vice-principal (international) of King’s College London; and Rabih Shibli, Director, Center for Civic engagement at the American University of Beirut.
