Global Learning Opportunities in Business Education (GLOBE)

2011 Heiskell Award Honorable Mention: International Exchange Partnerships

Nomination submitted by: Gordon Cheung, Director of Academic Links

Program Overview
Launched in 2005, GLOBE (Global Learning Opportunities in Business Education) is an undergraduate business program that truly lives up to its name. A partnership between the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Copenhagen Business School (CBS), and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), the program enrolls an elite cohort of 45 students each year from the three schools to study together for 18 months in Denmark, Hong Kong and the United States.

The global journey, however, does not stop with classroom-based learning: the program also includes study trips in Europe, Asia and North America, as well as executive briefings at selected organizations. In Shanghai alone, for example, a recent cohort visited the Exhibition Centre of World Expo 2010, Grundfos Pumps, Kerry EAS Logistics, Philips Electronics China, Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Centre, Shanghai Volkswagen and Want Want Group. Such visits enable students to gain firsthand perspectives from those working in a global setting.

GLOBE is recognized for creating a comprehensive program in which future business leaders are exposed to different cultural settings, learn from world-class professors and senior corporate executives, and have the chance to develop a distinct global business sense and unique cultural fluency.
