Trilateral Consortium on Capacity Building in Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies

2005 Heiskell Award Honorable Mention: Study Abroad

Nomination submitted by: Leslie C. McAllan, Assistant Professor, College of Education

Program Overview
The University of Arizona is eliminating barriers to study abroad for students with disabilities, and others traditionally underrepresented in the field. The Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation, and School Psychology in the College of Education at UA is working to make exchange opportunities more practical for students with specific learning, health care, and independent living needs. One of six universities and three community-based non-governmental organizations working together in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, UA has created a program including virtual exchanges, short-term exchanges, and carefully planned traditional semester-long exchanges designed to promote cross-cultural learning and professional development to improve future employment opportunities.
