Partnering to Break Study Abroad Barriers for TRIO Students & Staff; October 30, 2024, 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. ET

This session provides international educators with insight into developing and implementing study abroad programs for high-impact practice and student success, specifically for federally-funded TRIO programs and students from historically underrepresented populations. Director of the IIE Center for Access and Equity, Lindsay Calvert, will present research and resources from IIE. After reviewing a university case study from VCU, presenters will share information and experience launching a short-term study abroad program for TRIO students, and address breaking barriers through internal and external partnerships. Attendees will receive guidance, reflection, and the opportunity to initiate their own plan to engage with TRIO programs on their campuses and/or other historically underrepresented populations.

Join Leaders of the Free World and IIE’s Center for Access and Equity for this session, which will focus on strategies to increase participation in international education for Black male students and diversify the global leadership landscape. Empowering Gen P Community College Students: A Pathway to Global Citizenship; November 1, 2024, 9:00 a.m.– 10:00 a.m. ET

Join us for an engaging session delving into the transformative journey of Generation P community college students, particularly focusing on first-generation college students. Shaped by COVID-19 challenges, they seek individualized, flexible, affordable support, viewing education through a career-focused lens. Panelists will explore strategies to leverage resources both within and beyond academic institutions to facilitate international experiences for these students, opening doors to global citizenship. Come and learn best practices of empowering Generation P students to broaden their horizons and shape a global future.
