Join Generation Study Abroad® and Be Part of a Movement of Change
As of October 2015, the IIE-led Generation Study Abroad initiative now includes more than 600 partner organizations, including 350 U.S. colleges and universities, and 100 from outside of the United States. Study abroad organizations and education associations as well as 14 country partners around the world have also joined. In addition, 500 K-12 teachers from 50 states have pledged to take action to encourage their students to develop a global perspective and consider studying abroad when they are in college.
At the first annual IIE Summit on Generation Study Abroad, IIE release the Generation Study Abroad Impact Report: Year One. A key finding of the report was that Generation Study Abroad Commitment partners together have committed $185 million in financial support over the next five years to make study abroad more accessible to all. This funding will provide support to students, faculty and programming to expand study abroad opportunities over the next five years. Also, 84% of the U.S. colleges and universities who have joined the initiative plan to create or expand scholarships for underrepresented study abroad students. Many are using their new scholarship ideas and actions to attract funding from the local community, alumni and businesses. The report also highlights some of the exciting initiatives our international commitment partners are doing to attract American students to their campuses.
Please see additional findings and full partner profiles on the IIE Generation Study Abroad Impact page.
However, much more work needs to be done for us to reach our goal. In addition to the higher education community, IIE continues to seek the support of high school teachers, study abroad alumni and students, as well as private sector partners, governments, and educational organizations who will be able to contribute scholarships and resources.
