The application deadline for the 2016-2017 cycle is January 29, 2016 by 11:59 pm. All application materials are to be submitted to email@example.com. Mailed materials must be postmarked by 1/29/16.
Failure to provide all information requested is grounds for the elimination of your application. Material not requested will be discarded. No interviews will be conducted. Receipt of required materials after the deadline may disqualify your application. Please convey the deadline to all affiliations, reference writers, and appropriate university offices/other sources of required materials. We are unable to provide the status of individual supporting documents – you are encouraged to request a read receipt with your e-mail submission and to ask reference writers/affiliations to do the same. Please check with the source of the document and request they forward the confirmation receipt so you know it has been received. Automatic replies will be generated for all submissions to firstname.lastname@example.org. An email message confirming receipt of an application will be sent to all applicants approximately two weeks after the deadline. Final decisions on Fellows are generally communicated in mid-April.
Prospective applicants are also encouraged to make use of the IAF's site to learn more about their mission, grant-making and grantees, and to read their publications.
1) Download the application materials
You must have the most current version of Adobe Reader to download the materials. Mac users should read instructions carefully to ensure compatibility. First save the file to your computer then verify that you have saved it correctly by completing a few fields, saving the form, closing it and re-opening it. When you open your saved file, you should see the information you entered and be able to add and edit. DO NOT print the forms as a PDF. You are encouraged to draft and save your application in Word and then move it to the form.

2) Complete the IAF Fellowship Application
The form must be submitted as a fill-able PDF document. Do not print your application as a pdf. Applications are processed electronically. If the application cannot be read, it must be corrected before it can move forward. Please do not use tabs or indents, and do not change any spacing or other formatting. All text must be visible within the field. If you cannot see it, reviewers will not see it. Keep your responses concise, and note the word limits. You should type over the default text, and you should be able to see your own text after you leave the field. Abbreviate as required. The application includes:

- Academic Background
- A Custom Curriculum Vitae
- A Personal Statement

3) Gather Required Attachments
- Foreign Language Proficiency Report (Native speakers must complete as indicated.)
- IAF Applicant Certification (must be sent as a separate document - do not combine with other materials - may be in same e-mail, but do not merge files)
- Three Academic References (must come from the reference writer by e-mail or mail; please refer to the instructions)
- University Certification (no form is available; please refer to the instructions)
- Letter(s) of Affiliation (at least one for each country of research)
- IRB Approval or Exemption (or letter by applicant with timeline)
- All Graduate Transcripts (including foreign studies - do NOT include undergrad transcripts) - may be Unofficial/Student Copies IF on watermarked paper/letterhead.
All supporting documents should be saved as a PDF file or Word file (.doc) and forwarded electronically by the source indicated in the instructions to email@example.com whenever possible. Please note the signature requirements. Signatures may be JPEG or TIFF - typed names and certified signatures within a pdf are not acceptable. References should be on university letterhead, not in the body of the e-mail.
The applicant's full name and university should be clearly indicated on the subject line and the attachments.
The application and Foreign Language Proficiency Report must be submitted via the fillable form via email. If using regular mail send other required attachments to the following address:
