NEW YORK, March 31, 2020 — This year the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) launched its inaugural effort to engage international students with the globally competitive education, research, and scholarship opportunities available at the university. MBZUAI has partnered with the Institute of International Education (IIE) to recruit scholarship students from around the world for its master’s and Ph.D. programs in artificial intelligence to enhance the academic community for its inaugural classes.

MBZUAI is the first graduate-level, research-based university dedicated solely to emerging technology in the fields of artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing. This innovative program will attract world-class researchers and scholars to the Masdar City community in Abu Dhabi and encourage them to help develop the area into a regional hub for trade and commerce in AI-related industries and a global hub for technological advancement. They will also be at the cutting-edge of determining how artificial intelligence and society will interact: ensuring that future generations benefit from improved medical care, quality of life, and human security.

All students admitted to these programs will have their degrees entirely funded by scholarships, subject to maintaining a high degree of academic performance and compliance with MBZUAI’s code of conduct. The scholarship also includes health insurance, on-campus housing, annual airline tickets, monthly stipends, and other benefits. These students will have access to teaching and mentorship from the esteemed faculty from all around the world. Academic and career advisors will also work to place students in competitive internships and help them find permanent employment after graduation. Students from all countries and nationalities are encouraged to apply and special focus will be placed on prospective students from Latin America, North Africa and the Levant, South and Southeast Asia, China and East Asia, and Russia and Central Asia. Admission requirements can be found here.

His Excellency, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of State and Chair of the MBZUAI Board of Trustees said, “The University is an open invitation from Abu Dhabi to the world to unleash AI’s extraordinary potential. Our purpose is to empower students, businesses, and governments to advance artificial intelligence as a global force for positive progress. In addition to being a world-class educational institution, we intend for MBZUAI to become a global advocate for the use of AI as force for good.”

MBZUAI has selected the New York-based Institute of International Education (IIE) to be the implementing partner for its international student recruitment effort. IIE is a globally recognized leader in international educational exchange strategies and scholarship implementation. IIE staff will meet with stakeholders, including government ministries, universities, and educational associations in the regions of focus to build awareness of MBZUAI’s programs and will represent the University at launch events around the world.

IIE’s President and CEO, Allan E. Goodman said, “As the world confronts challenges like COVID-19, landmark global investments in Artificial Intelligence and research remain more important than ever.  We look forward to the opportunity to partner with MBZUAI to build interest in this program. Artificial intelligence will change the way that we interact with the world and Abu Dhabi’s efforts to become a leader for innovation through the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030—based on a commitment to promoting international educational exchange—will benefit the entire region.”
