Meeting America’s Global Education Challenge

November 1, 2017 October 18, 2017 Traverse City

Eight times a year, the International Affairs Forum brings top foreign policy experts to Traverse City, Michigan to speak on pressing global issues.

On Thursday, October 19, 2017, one such expert will be Allan Goodman, President and CEO of IIE, who will deliver a lecture entitled, Meeting America’s Global Education Challenge – Why Our Kids Need Passports And Should Use Them!

Our kids today can Tweet and Snapchat to “friends” anywhere on the planet. But less than 10% of U.S. undergrads study abroad, and only about one-third of Americans have passports. Drawing on his expertise as the leader of an organization responsible for more than 250 American exchange programs with 175 nations, including the venerated Fulbright Programs, Mr. Goodman will speak about why study abroad programs are essential to our global competitiveness.

The event will be held at Northwestern Michigan College’s (NMC) Milliken Auditorium, and will begin with a reception at 5:15 pm, after which Mr. Goodman will begin speaking at 6 pm. Admission will be free for all NMC students and educators; all other attendees may purchase tickets at the door for $15.
