IIE Announces Generation Google Scholarship Awards

Scholarship Program Will Provide Underrepresented Students Worldwide With Opportunities In Computer Science And Technology

NEW YORK, June 10, 2024 — The Institute of International Education (IIE), the new implementing partner of the Generation Google Scholarships, today announced 142 recipients across Africa, the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, the Middle East, and North America. Created by Google in 2004, the Generation Google Scholarship aims to help students become leaders in the technology field. This year, scholarships of up to $10,000 were awarded to outstanding college students earning computer science, computer engineering, or other related technical degrees. Recipients were selected based on their academic performance, demonstrated leadership, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

A steward of prestigious programs such as the U.S. Department of State’s Fulbright Program, IIE was selected by Google this spring to administer the scholarship. IIE leverages its network of 16 international offices to provide expert scholarship management services, including application operations, merit-based selection, and award administration. The agreement builds on IIE’s extensive portfolio of workforce development programs and advances the organization’s commitment to promoting access to higher education opportunities.

“Global challenges require global education, training and development, and collaboration. For twenty years, the Generation Google Scholarship has embodied this belief, and IIE is proud to administer this market-forward program to the next generation of computer scientists,” said Allan E. Goodman, CEO of IIE.

“Through our collaboration with IIE on the Generation Google Scholarship, we are continuing our commitment to making education more accessible for students from historically marginalized communities. Together, we’re supporting the next generation of students who will drive innovation in the field of technology,” said Amanda Timberg, Director of Programs, Education for Social Impact at Google.org.
