IIE and Rutgers Launch US-India Higher Education Thought Leadership Series

Senior Leaders Explored Cross-Sector Collaborations at the Inaugural Meeting in New Delhi This Spring

NEW DELHI, INDIA, May 14, 2025 — In commemoration of 20 years of higher education services through its New Delhi office, IIE has partnered with Rutgers University to launch the U.S.-India Higher Education Thought Leadership Series. Designed to further harness the burgeoning power of research and academic collaborations between the United States and India, the series took place on March 24, at the start of the annual Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) Conference in Delhi. More than 30 educators, researchers, and policymakers networked and explored opportunities for joint research, faculty and student exchanges, and academic-public-private sector collaborations.

In addition, IIE and Rutgers co-hosted a gala reception attended by 200 stakeholders from India and several other countries. This event provided a platform to network and strengthen India-US collaborations.

The thought leadership series comes a year after IIE initiated its historic Leadership Delegation to India, where more than 100 higher education leaders from both countries participated, including 31 provosts, vice provosts, deans, and other leaders from U.S. higher education institutions. Indian degree-seekers now account for the largest share of international students at U.S. colleges and universities, according to the Open Doors Report. Governments from both countries have expressed ongoing interest in collaborating as well.

IIE is grateful to Rutgers University for its partnership and looks forward to ushering in a new era of bilateral academic cooperation. Read Rutgers’s full announcement
