Each year, thousands of U.S. students embark on international experiences throughout the globe. While nearly 300,000 students pursue shorter-term experiences by studying abroad from their U.S. colleges and universities, more than 90,000 also opt to earn a full undergraduate or graduate degree at colleges and universities outside the United States. These degree-seeking students constitute a key component of global student mobility, contributing to the international exchange of knowledge, skills, and perspectives across countries.
This report covers insights on where these students study, the academic levels they pursue, their fields of study, and factors that influence where and why U.S. students choose to pursue full degrees abroad.
