Partners

WES is designed by the Institute of International Education (IIE), Center for Women’s Leadership Initiatives in San Francisco, WES is implemented in collaboration with eight partner organizations across Tunisia. WES is funded by the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) of the United States Department of State with support from Craig Newmark (founder of Craigslist), eBay, LinkedIn and Microsoft.

Middle East Partnership Initiative

MEPIThe U.S.-Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), located within the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, is a unique program designed to create vibrant partnerships with citizens in the Middle East and North African (MENA) region to foster the development of pluralistic, participatory, and prosperous societies. MEPI partners with local, regional, and international non-governmental organizations, the private sector, academic institutions, and governments to support projects that directly respond to priorities identified by the people of the MENA region.  Since 2002, and through its Washington headquarters and two Regional Offices, MEPI contributed over $600 million to more than 1,000 projects in 18 countries and territories.

Craig Newmark

Craig Newmark is an Internet entrepreneur best known for being the founder of the San Francisco-based international website Craigslist. Upon graduation he attended college at Case Western Reserve University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1975 and a Master of Science degree in 1977. He has worked for worked for GM, Bank of America, and Charles Schwab. Newmark is a vocal advocate of keeping the Internet free and supported IIE’s E-Mediat program focused on strengthening social media capabilities of NGOs in MENA.

eBay

With more than 100 million active users globally (as of Q4 2011), eBay is the world’s largest online marketplace, where practically anyone can buy and sell practically anything. Founded in 1995, eBay connects a diverse and passionate community of individual buyers and sellers, as well as small businesses. Their collective impact on ecommerce is staggering: In 2011, the total value of goods sold on eBay was $68.6 billion—more than $2,100 every second. LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a business-related social networking site. Founded in December 2002 and launched in May 2003, it is mainly used for professional networking. As of February 2012, LinkedIn reports more than 150 million registered users in more than 200 countries and territories. The company’s management team is comprised of seasoned executives from companies like Yahoo!, Google, Microsoft, TiVo, PayPal and Electronic Arts and is headed by Jeff Weiner. LinkedIn is available in 17 languages.

Microsoft

Microsoft is the world’s largest software company, which helps to create social and economic opportunities wherever they work, live, and do business. Microsoft’s citizenship efforts focus on four key areas, using its technology, people, partnerships and business to promote social good and economic opportunity—Strengthening Economies, Addressing Societal Challenges, Healthy Online Ecosystem and Operating Responsibly.


WES provides training and support to eight partner organizations in Tunisia enabling them to operate WES centers using a cost-recovery business model.
