Additional 100 Girls in Ethiopia Awarded the HER Scholarship

IIE is excited to announce that an additional 100 girls were awarded IIE’s Higher Education Readiness (HER) scholarship. These 11th grade girls (fifty each from Fitawrari and Addis Ketema schools) should be proud of their accomplishments. They were selected by an independent review panel consisting of Ethiopian leaders in the non-profit and private sectors. The panelists chose the next round of HER girls based on academic successes, financial need, and potential for leadership. After a thorough review of all the submitted applications, the review panel submitted the final list for IIE review and notification to the selected girls and schools.

The girls have been notified and have accepted the HER scholarship. Shortly after receiving notification of the award, the girls and their parents met at the schools to go over all the scholarship requirements and to better understand their commitment.

The next two years will be filled with academic tutoring, mentoring, leadership, and financial training—all to get them ready to transition to university with the confidence that they will succeed and achieve their life dreams.

As reported in the past, IIE is partnering with two schools in Addis Ababa, Fitawrari and Addis Ketema. Fitawrari is located on the outskirts of the city in a rural area where there are little access to educational opportunities. Addis Ketema is located in the heart of Addis Ababa in a bustling market area. IIE looks forward to our continued work with these two schools and the opportunity to provide another 100 girls with access to the academic skill building and leadership development they will need to help them matriculate to university.

All of us at IIE look forward to reporting on their success!
