Generation Study Abroad

IIE’s Generation Study Abroad Resource Hub

The Generation Study Abroad resource hub – a collection of IIE’s study abroad resources for students, families, and international education professionals— supports continued efforts to increase the number of students participating in study abroad.

IIE has been a leader in advocating for and supporting study abroad for over 100 years. From 2014 – 2019, our Generation Study Abroad initiative strove to increase participation in study abroad through a network of global partners. We are committed to advancing study abroad by being responsive to the changing environment, leveraging our global network, philanthropic efforts, and data-driven learning to support study abroad and international education.

IIE & AIFS Foundation’s Newest Report on Global Internships and Study Abroad

The latest Global Education Research Report, a joint initiative of the AIFS Foundation and IIE, is Global Internships and Study Abroad: An Employer Perspective. This study examines the experiences and outcomes of U.S. students who participated in global internships and in-person experiential activities during their study abroad experience. U.S. higher education institutions are increasingly focusing on international internships and experiential activities for their students, emphasizing the critical link between academic advancement, intercultural competencies, and global workforce needs.

The paper presents three institutional case studies and incorporates the perspectives of employers participating in global internship programs, examining the considerations, conditions, and benefits of hosting international interns.
