IIE Earns Four-Star Rating from Charity Navigator

NEW YORK, August 17, 2012—The Institute of International Education (IIE), one of the world’s largest and most experienced international education and training organizations, today announced it has received a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator.

“Only 5% of the charities we rate have received at least 5 consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that [the] Institute of International Education outperforms most other charities in America,” said Ken Berger, president and CEO of Charity Navigator, in a congratulatory letter addressed to IIE’s president. “This ‘exceptional’ designation from Charity Navigator differentiates [the] Institute of International Education from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust.”

IIE received the four-star rating—the highest on Charity Navigator’s ratings scale—for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency. The rating indicates that IIE “adheres to good governance and other best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities and consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way,” according to Charity Navigator.

“It is an honor to receive this distinction for the 5th year in a row,” said Allan E. Goodman, President and CEO of the Institute of International Education (IIE). “The Institute is committed to best practices in nonprofit management. We are pleased to be recognized for consistently providing the highest-possible service to our sponsors, donors and partners. Their support enables us to expand access to education worldwide and assist students and scholars in danger around the world.”

About Charity Navigator

Charity Navigator is the largest charity evaluator in America and its website attracts more visitors than all other charity rating groups combined. The organization helps guide intelligent giving by evaluating the Financial Health and Accountability & Transparency of roughly 5,500 mid-to-large sized charities that garner roughly 50% of all private contributions made in the USA each year (not including houses of worship). Charity Navigator accepts no advertising or donations from the organizations it evaluates, ensuring unbiased evaluations, nor does it charge the public for this trusted data. As a result, Charity Navigator, a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization itself, depends on support from individuals, corporations and foundations that believe it provides a much-needed service to America’s charitable givers.
