IIE Hosts University Leaders from Germany

WASHINGTON, DC, September 19, 2012—The Institute of International Education will host a delegation of German higher education leaders for a five-day study tour in Washington, DC on behalf of the German-American Fulbright Commission. The program will focus on continuing and adult education and will consist of workshops and site visits to public and private universities in the DC area.

The goal of the study visit is to introduce administrators from German universities to how continuing education in the United States is often an integral part of a university’s mission and development strategy. The program will focus on how higher education institutions are meeting the demands of educational and professional training requirements to sharpen their institutional profiles. The German delegates will explore the role and function of continuing academic education at select U.S. universities.

During the week, the German delegation will visit a range of institutions and meet with officials from the Northern Virginia Community College, University of Maryland College Park, George Washington University, Georgetown University, and University of Maryland College Park. The delegation will also meet with representatives of the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training, Virginia Tech Continuing & Professional Education, U.S. Department of Education, Government of the District of Columbia, and Jobs for the Future.

Leaders of the German-American Fulbright Commission and Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft will accompany senior representatives from Bayreuth University, Hamburg University, Zeppelin University, Wuppertal University, Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences, The Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), Financial Times Deutschland, Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft, Technical University Dortmund, Rostock University, Berlin University for Professional Studies, University of Applied Sciences Munich, and Regensburg University of Applied Sciences.
