NEW YORK and BEIJING, February 23, 2015—Paul Turner, a higher education specialist with more than 25 years of experience in China and Hong Kong, has been named the new IIE East Asia Regional Director. Mr. Turner took up the position on February 2, 2015 and will be overseeing both IIE’s Beijing and Hong Kong offices.
For the last 10 years, Mr. Turner served as the Asia Pacific Director and Business Development Director for NCUK, a consortium of eleven British universities, where he worked on several partnership and scholarship programs in East Asia and led business development efforts throughout the region. Mr. Turner also helped to establish the Sino-British College, USST in Shanghai, which is the first degree awarding partnership between a single Chinese university and multiple foreign institutions.
Prior to joining NCUK, Mr. Turner served as the China Director of the Canadian Education Centre Network, fostering student exchanges and education links between China and Canada. Mr. Turner was also a Chief Representative for the Voluntary Service Overseas and an Information Officer for the British Council. He has also advised numerous U.S. universities on their East Asia strategies for developing partnerships and educational exchange.
Both of IIE’s East Asia offices are committed to strengthening the ties among the people of Hong Kong, Macau and, China with the U.S. through the international exchange of people and ideas. The Hong Kong and Beijing offices specialize in administering scholarship and fellowship programs, providing outreach and advising services, international higher education fairs and academic testing and assessment. The IIE Beijing office opened in 2001 and the Hong Kong office opened in 1967.
