FAQ

Letters of Recommendation and Letters of Support

The Letter of Reference is part of the scholar application and must come from an administrator at the level of dean or higher from the scholar’s home institution. The Letters of Support are part of the project request. Two letters of support are required, one from the university rector and one from the department head.

Yes, but it cannot come from an associate administrator.

Host Eligibility

The institution does not have to have a doctoral or master’s program, but it must be an accredited university or college.

No. Only institutions based in Greece are eligible.

No limits apply.

Scholar Eligibility

No, as long as you were born in Greece/Cyprus or hold Greek citizenship, you are eligible.

Yes. For selected host/fellows, you will be invited to submit an application for supplemental funds.

Yes, the program does support cohorts. Please note that each scholar must complete an individual scholar application and each of scholar must be named in the host institution’s project request.

No. But keep in mind that the project request needs to justify the participation and expertise of each participant.

Full-time senior lecturers from some fields are eligible to apply. Please contact GreekDiaspora@iie.org for more details.

No. The GDFP only funds the scholar’s visit to the host institution.

No. A diaspora scholar can only be named in one project request per completion cycle.

Reapplying

Yes, you can reapply with the same project idea. We recommend you read the Review Criteria and make changes in line with the guidelines. 

Yes. Simply contact GreekDiaspora@iie.org and request that your application be released for editing.

Multi-Institutional Fellowships

Yes, the program does support multi-institutional project requests. Please note that institutions you are working with must only submit one project request.

There are no restrictions regarding the number of institutions, but keep in mind that the project must be completed in one visit and the participation of each institution must be clearly justified in the project request.

Feedback

The GDFP program team does not provide feedback on non-recommended or non-selected project requests. If submitting in future application cycles, please consult the Review Criteria section.
