ROTC Flagship Summer Language Program (FSLP)
ROTC FSLP is a national pilot initiative offering fully funded scholarships for qualified contracted ROTC students from all service branches to study critical languages overseas.
How Can ROTC Students Study Language Abroad?
Contracted ROTC students have a unique opportunity to study critical languages overseas through the ROTC Flagship Summer Language Program (FSLP). Sponsored by the Defense Language and National Security Education Office (DLNSEO) and administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE), ROTC FSLP carries forward the legacy, mission, and impact of Project Global Officer (Project GO) by providing transformative scholarships for contracted Air Force, Army, and Naval ROTC cadets and midshipmen. ROTC FSLP prepares future military officers with valuable language skills and the adaptability necessary for leadership in the complex operating environments of the 21st century.
In 2026-2027, ROTC FSLP programing is offered in Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Korean, Russian, and Swahili.
ROTC FSLP currently provides grants to 10 U.S. institutions of higher education on behalf of the Department of War to award scholarships and implement overseas language training for future U.S. military officers.
