IIE and ETS Collaborate in the United States on English Language Assessment

IIE to Become Country Master Distributor of the TOEFL ITP® Tests for the United States

NEW YORK, October 21, 2021 – The Institute of International Education (IIE) and ETS today announced a new business collaboration through which IIE will be the Country Master Distributor of the TOEFL ITP® tests in the United States. Utilized in more than 50 countries around the world, the TOEFL ITP® tests are globally recognized and trusted tests for higher education institutions, nonprofit organizations, schools and businesses to assess English-language proficiency.

IIE and ETS have a long history of collaborating to promote the value of English language learning and assessment. IIE’s offices and partners in Mexico, Indonesia and Thailand are among the largest implementers of ETS’s TOEFL ITP tests in their countries, enabling students to take advantage of educational opportunities, and institutions to place students and monitor learning impacts in their programs. As the Country Master Distributor, IIE will manage the marketing and sales of the TOEFL ITP tests in the United States on behalf of ETS.

IIE Senior Vice President Jonah Kokodyniak lauded the new collaboration with ETS, saying “IIE has long valued our work with ETS and is honored to become the Country Master Distributor for the TOEFL ITP tests in the United States. We look forward to working with the hundreds of institutions and organizations who are already using these tests in the United States and introducing new institutions to this important assessment tool. Our ultimate goal is to support English language learning and make it possible for individuals to succeed in higher education and the workplace.”

The TOEFL ITP assessments share the same rich heritage as the TOEFL iBT® test — the world’s most widely accepted and respected English-language assessment — and empower institutions to make data-driven decisions about their English-language programs for placement, progress monitoring, and exiting. Scores are accepted by international programs, scholarships and for teacher evaluations around the world.

“I’m very pleased to see this extension of the strategic relationship between IIE NY and ETS on this promising market opportunity,” said Mohammad Kousha, Associate Vice President of ETS’s Global Growth division. “This further deepens our commitment with setting an ecosystem to work with teachers associations and higher-ed institutions to support students’ English journeys. This relationship provides ETS and the TOEFL® family of products with another avenue for growth in which we can expand entirely new areas around the TOEFL ITP assessment.”

Effective November 1, IIE will be launching operations which will be managed out of IIE’s headquarters in New York City. For more information, contact TOEFLITP.US@iie.org
