Apply

The 2024-2025 application is now closed.

Eligibility

  • The IIE Centennial Fellowship awards 4 grants of $25,000 annually.
  • To be eligible for the IIE Centennial Fellowship, the applicant must have successfully completed an eligible Fulbright Award Program before June 10, 2024.
    • Eligible Fulbright programs include Fulbright Arctic, English Teaching Assistant, English Language Teaching Assistant, Foreign Language Teaching Assistant, Foreign Student, Visiting Scholar, Scholar-in-Residence, Scholar, Specialist, Student, and International Education Administrator.
    • Awards are considered complete when you receive a certificate or letter of completion from the Fulbright program.
  • Projects must align with the annual theme to be eligible. For 2024-2025, proposed projects must focus on tangible solutions to ensure inclusive, equitable, and quality primary and secondary education that will enable access to higher education.
    • Projects for the IIE Centennial Fellowship can be new or ongoing projects.
    • Projects must directly impact the target audience and produce a tangible outcome within the one-year fellowship term. Projects that are solely research- or outreach-focused do not meet this requirement.
  • Prospective applicants do not have to be affiliated with an institution to be eligible for fellowship awards.
    • The applicant must be the proposed project’s Principal Investigator (PI).
    • Applicants may not be employees or volunteers for a collaborating organization. The exception is if the organization is an organization that you founded or are currently leading and is directly connected to the execution of the proposed project.
  • An individual may only submit one application each year. If multiple applications are submitted in a single year, the selection committee will not review those applications.
  • We encourage Fulbright alumni working or studying in any field to apply.
  • It is possible to submit a joint application with two or more Fulbright alums, but due to our application system, all participants must submit individual applications. To be an eligible joint project, your application must have the same project name, mention your partner’s name in the project abstract, have the same project plan and budget, and be prepared to open a joint/project bank account to receive the funding.

Application

The following information and supporting documents will need to be included in your application before submitting:

  • A complete application, answering all required fields, and submitted online. We cannot accept any applications outside the IIE online portal.
    • Fulbright Award letter: applicants will be asked to provide their Fulbright award letter to confirm their eligibility. If you cannot access your letter, you must give IIE permission to verify your eligibility with the Fulbright Program team.
    • Project timeline: Applicants must provide a timeline outlining activities, outputs, and goals from November 15, 2024 to November 17, 2025.
    • Project budget & narrative (submitted as part of the application): Please provide a project budget using the template provided in the application detailing how you plan to spend fellowship funds. In the budget narrative, please describe the major budget categories, high-cost items, and why the costs are necessary to complete the proposed project.
  • Recommendation letter: Only one recommendation letter can be submitted for each application. You will register your recommender as part of the application, but they must separately submit the recommendation letter by the July 11th deadline. The letter should speak to your personal, professional, and academic background and ability to execute your proposed project. The recommender information and letter must be written in English. If your recommender is unable to submit before the deadline, you can change your recommender within the application portal.

Selection

IIE will review applications through our three-stage selection process:

  • Technical review confirms eligibility and that all required application elements have been submitted.
  • Eligible applications are reviewed by an internal selection panel made up of senior IIE team members with knowledge of the Fulbright program and the Centennial Fellowship.
  • Finalist applications are reviewed by a distinguished external committee.

All applicants will be notified by November 1, 2024 of their application status via email. Selected projects may begin activities on November 15, 2024.
