There were over 397,635 international students in China between December 2014 to November 2015. The top five places of origin for in-bound international students in 2015 were South Korea, the United States, Thailand, India, and Russia. The China Scholarship Council (CSC) is the primary organization responsible for reporting international student mobility data to Project Atlas. The Ministry of Education, China collects, analyzes and reports in-bound and out-bound higher education mobility data to international organizations such as UNESCO. Immigration and governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations and higher education entities also report out-bound data to international organizations. Domestic HEIs collect international student data and report it to the Ministry of Education annually.
