Announcing the Final Cycle of the IFP Alumni Awards

The deadline to apply has passed and applications are now closed.

The Alumni Awards are individual awards of up to $1,000 designed to support the International Fellowships Program alumni in a wide range of professional, academic, and community activities that provide a benefit to their home communities. The awards are administered by the Institute of International Education in conjunction with the 10-year IFP Alumni Tracking Study.

Funding Timeframe of the 2022 Cycle: The award period for the third cycle of the Alumni Awards will be from October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2023, and alumni will need to conduct their activities within this timeframe.

Alumni who received an award in 2015 or 2018 are not eligible for the 2022 awards. Alumni who applied but did not receive an award during the first and/or second cycle will be eligible to apply for awards in this third cycle.

Please also note the following:

  • Applications and all correspondence with IIE during the awards period will be in English. However, alumni may choose to conduct their activities in any language.
  • Awards will only be made to individual IFP Alumni. An application may be submitted only by an individual; no institutional or collective applications are allowed.

About the IFP Alumni Awards

  • Costs associated with research, including data collection, fieldwork, or publication or dissemination of research findings.
  • Travel or registration costs associated with attending workshops or conferences.
  • Expenses associated with membership fees for a professional organization.

If you have any questions regarding the Alumni Awards, please reach out to

IFP Alumni will be selected and notified by August 2022.

The awards period will begin October 1, 2022, and recipients will have until September 30, 2023 to complete their activity.

Awards Commitment

Alumni who receive an Award will be expected to submit an 800-word essay documenting their activity and its benefits for their home community.

Alumni will also be encouraged to submit photos, videos, or other multimedia documenting their project. These may be submitted in the alumni’s language of choice.

IFP Alumni Award Winners

To date, there have been two rounds of Alumni Awards, both alongside administration of the Global Alumni Surveys, respectively in 2015 and 2018. Active alumni who had successfully submitted their survey responses were eligible to apply. Winners were selected by an independent selection panel.

IFP Alumni Awards

After receiving over 1,000 applications in both the 2018 and 2015 application rounds, winners were selected and represented a wide variety of project types and fields of work. More than half of the projects were community-development efforts. Alumni implemented small projects around the world, and winners represent each of the 22 countries in which IFP was awarded.
