Qcamp for Girls in STEM

WeTech is reaching the younger demographic through Qualcomm’s® innovative “Qcamp for Girls in STEM.”
This camp will provide girls with the opportunity to strengthen their scientific and mathematical skills through hands-on engineering projects. They will get a chance to explore the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields and learn about careers in STEM.

2016 marked the third year for Qcamp, a two-week camp for middle school girls recruited from the San Diego and Vista Unified School Districts. Qcamp is held in Qualcomm’s Thinkabit Lab, a hands-on, kid-friendly makerspace for students that want to tinker and invent. The goal is long-term engagement with every girl, inviting them back yearly and reconnecting with them during the school year. Qcamp aims to engage with the girls until the girls reach college where, if Qcamp is successful, the girls select a STEM degree. As a partner of Qcamp, University of California at Berkeley is researching the long term outcomes of this program.

Qcamp curriculum focuses on STEM subjects with a strong emphasis on engineering while also giving the girls the opportunity to hear from Qualcomm employees through speakerships and personal interactions.
